Social media, while well intentioned, has not produced the connections or outlet for content that I was hoping to have on the internet. To be clear, most of the problem is self-inflicted. I don’t actively post and share. But I have my reasons. The main one is that I am not interested in counting likes or measuring reach. Nor do I want my information hosted forever on a social media platform that is making money off my content.
That sounds a bit snide and snobbish. I’m no one important. Just a normal person doing everyday things. But I’m old enough to have missed the hype and fever around the original social media outlets (I was in Brazil as a missionary when Facebook and MySpace really started to catch on). Later, I got on Twitter, which transformed into X, and Instagram.
But these outlets make it seem like you have to compartmentalize yourself into a certain interest and narrow focus. That has always been annoying because it would mean I would need to create multiple channels to cover my multiple interests. With that additional complexity, it’s a hard pass for me.
So, I’m creating this space to post all sorts of things pertaining to what I am doing. You don’t have to be into all of my interests, but if you are interested in me, then this is the place for you.
